Laser light has no limites

Cleaning with laser light is not only effective and environmentally friendly, but also versatile. Especially with shapes, depressions and other difficult areas, the advantage of laser light is clearly visible: it penetrates into every small area, vaporizes the coating and can be sucked off cleanly directly – no blast material remains. . Disassembling a machine for cleaning was yesterday! In addition, in contrast to cleaning with dry ice, laser cleaning saves the cost-intensive storage of consumables.

We are dealing here with a class 4 laser that works in the range of 1064nm. Protective equipment and measures must be observed in accordance with §5 OStrV i.V.m. TROS, DSGUV11 and DIN EN 60825-1. Safety glasses must be certified for 1064nm according to DIN 207.

We not only have the laser protection officers who accompany you, but also offer you the complete protection package and the advice on it. You can certainly rely on us.

Got any questions? We’ve got the answers!

Laser cleaning typically uses fibre lasers – both continuous-wave (CW) lasers and pulsed lasers. Depending on the application, a Gaussian pulse laser or a Top Hat laser may also be used. CW lasers are ideal for heavy-duty applications where speed and power are key, while pulsed lasers allow precise control for efficient, targeted cleaning.

In simple terms: coating thickness doesn’t limit what can be done. Thicker or more stubborn coatings simply require higher energy densities and more overall energy to remove effectively. Lighter layers, on the other hand, need less energy and, depending on the surface, a longer pulse duration for a softer finish. Because laser cleaning works in layers, multiple passes may be necessary for tough coatings – which can be an advantage if you don’t want to remove every layer.

Organic contaminants often require lower energy levels, while inorganic materials need higher energy densities for effective removal. The correct settings depend on the combination of pulse width and pulse frequency relative to the laser source.

Pulse frequency affects heat input and therefore the appearance of the cleaned surface. Higher frequencies can heat the surface faster and may risk damage, while lower frequencies generate less heat but can produce a more aggressive removal. This always interacts with the correctly set pulse width.

The focusing lens concentrates the laser beam to a precise point, improving cleaning accuracy and efficiency. Precise focusing is essential for effectively removing contaminants. The focal distance also directly impacts the treated area and the level of precision – shorter focal distances deliver a more aggressive treatment, while longer distances result in a gentler, broader effect. In addition, the focal distance influences the depth of field.
