Cleaning with laser light

With oscillating waves, the laser light hits the workpiece to be treated in the selected spectrum, is reflected there and vaporizes the upper layer by microexplosions. The result: a pore-deep pure surface.

In laser cleaning, surface contaminants are removed using concentrated, short laser pulses. The dirt is vaporised and can be extracted immediately, meaning no laborious cleaning is required afterwards.

Laser cleaning is particularly effective on materials such as metal, stone, wood and composites. In some cases, even plastic can be treated. Because the laser beam can be precisely focused for each application, it can be used for anything from gentle cleaning to high-powered treatment.

Laser cleaning removes contaminants with exceptional precision and efficiency. The workpiece remains undamaged, and if required, the surface can be roughened to prepare it for recoating. Other benefits include lower costs and greater environmental friendliness.

Integration often involves using robots or automated systems to direct the laser beam precisely and consistently onto the surface. This minimises downtime and speeds up production. In many cases, the movement of existing machinery can be used to carry out static laser cleaning as part of a continuous process.

Yes. Compared to sandblasting or dry ice blasting, laser cleaning is more environmentally friendly and has a far smaller carbon footprint. It also requires no chemicals or abrasives, which means significantly less waste and environmental impact. Any residue is simply vaporised, extracted and disposed of via a replaceable filter.

Operating costs for laser cleaning are relatively low – often between €1 and €10 per hour, depending on the specific application and the laser cleaning equipment used. Contact us for a tailored quote.

During laser cleaning, various factors must be taken into account by trained professionals following the correct safety procedures. When used properly, laser cleaning poses no risk to the operator or anyone nearby. Unlike traditional methods, it also involves no toxic chemicals.

Laser safety is essential at all times, but it’s simpler to achieve than you might think – even with a Class 4 laser. The key priorities are protecting the eyes and securing the work area so that only trained and authorised personnel are present. Outside the defined safety zone – which may extend a few metres depending on the application – the laser light is so diffused that it poses no risk. A certified Laser Safety Officer will assess and set up these safety measures in detail. In short: safety is practical and straightforward to implement.

Only if you want it to. Heat from the laser can alter the surface structure if that’s the intended outcome, and the system can be adjusted accordingly. In normal operation, laser cleaning does not cause structural changes.
